The reserve drink of choice in India’s ‘wet states’ comes in a spanking-sized bottle, and you have at least a 50% chance of not getting an off bottle - bonus!
Started OK in hometown of Boston, got worse. Still, the only Yank beer in the top ten (there is a reason for that!!!) although I must stress (and avoid a contract being taken out on my life) that we didn’t get a chance to stop in Hamilton, Montana’s premiere tasting room on this trip so I was unable to include any of the wonderful and great tasting “Bitteroot Brewing” products in the list…any free donations (not that I didn’t get enough of them already) gratefully received!!!
Having blown all our Kiwi Dollars on adventure sports, we were only really able to muster one decent night out in New Zealand. Queenstown’s bars were checked out for the night as copious amounts of both this beverage, and the amusingly titled Steinlager (well only amusing whilst drunk and listening to the Goatman yell it at the top of his voice in a high German accent!), led to a 4-way wrestle/back-stabbing contest on the South Island streets. Hold on to your Nips!
The second Indian entry beats Sandpiper hands down - you have 60% chance of a good bottle!!!
Compared to the minging local drink of Cava, anything would taste damn good.
Made it’s debut in monster-sized bottles in a Beijing bar for just 3 Yuan (about 20p) - it was like Christmas! Soon levelled out to more realistic prices but still the drink of choice throughout nights in Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai.
Three months offer plenty of drinking opportunities. Be it World Cup clashes, Neighbours nights or East Coast lash ups, there was vast quantities of both consumed. Reached peak consumption during a three-week bender in Cairns featuring, amongst other nights, the England Vs Argentina antics.
Beating their Aussie counterparts into second best on the benefits of cheapness, bottle size and all round lax attitude to alcohol content regulations, Chang and Singha were consumed in vast quantities during the massive Thai parties of Song Kran and Full Moon. If you were done with all that then there were always the Whisky/Redbull buckets - ouch!
